Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman recount the story of how they were searching for Wonder Woman’s home island of Themyscira which has mysteriously disappeared to a unknown fourth party. The Trinity get sucked into a portal to another world where they must defend themselves from a not only the harshness of the environment but the strange inhabitants of the new land.
James Robinson does a good job of opening this story arc with just a simple notion. Wonder Woman needs help and Superman and Batman are there to help her simply because they are her friends. Nothing more nothing less just two friends helping out another. It just so happens her friends are a superpowered alien and a billionaire genius crimefighter. But Robinson wants us to see from the start of the story that despite the differences these three will do anything for each other because simply they are friends. The dynamic interaction between all three is on point and wonderfully written. Their need to protect one another is truely highlighted in the story from start to finish.
Zircher and Etlaeb do a great job on the art are well. Pops of color and nice contrasts really tie in with the story well. I like the little details in the art of this issue. The rips in the costumes from their trip in the portal, the cuts on their bodies, the definitions of their physique are really well done.
This is a pretty good start to a story that offers a bit of mystery, some pretty good action and great art that marrries all together in one nice package.
