It seems that Sam Humphries run on Nightwing will be relatively short-lived and limited to 10 issues. Humphries began his run with issue #34 as he carved out a new character and nemesis called the Judge which is still to completed by issue #41 which leave more 2 more issues to be completed before the new creative team starts.
Starting with issue #44, the team will be headlined by Benjamin Percy with Christopher Mooneyham on pencils. Percy is known for his work on Detective Comics and Green Arrow. Percy says he has big plans to shake up Dick Grayson’s life with a “big, bold, game-changing storyline”.
When Humphries took over the writing duties on Nightwing it was hoped that he could give the title’s sales a real boost but they have been static at best and many have found the series to be in a holding pattern waiting for something big to actually happen.
Its a shame that Jamal Campbell won’t be continuing his work on pencils and inks as I have found his work to be nothing short of stellar and hopefully he can pick up a gig on another title straight after.
The variant covers for Nightwing will be drawn by Yasmine Putri when the creative team changes, which also means no more gorgeous Bernard Chang variants.
Hopefully this creative team overhaul that will begin in May will be jolt in the arm this series needs as DC has begun several cancellations recently and it would be a shame for Nightwing to be another casualty by the end of the year.
