Mister Miracle #3 Review

Mister Miracle #3

Writer: Tom King
Artist: Mitch Gerads

Mister Miracle #3 cements the fact that Tom King and Mitch Gerads are great storytellers. This issue delves more into the intentions of Orion, whether they be good or bad, and continue to see the relationship of Mister Miracle and Big Barda on display.  Ever since issue #1, something just seems amiss about Orion.  Sure he wants to defeat Darkseid, but what will he do to accomplish this?  According to Forager, he’ll do just about anything, even sacrifice millions of lives to win.  There was also a warning that Metron gave Scott in issue #2, and that comes into play toward the end of the issue.  Orion may want to see Darkseid fall, but there is much more to it than a simple victory.

The relationship Mister Miracle and Big Barda have is a thing of beauty.  Most heroes don’t have the luxury of having successful relationships, but that isn’t true for this couple.  The back and forth they have in this issue is delightful and fun to see. It was also a nice to see them interacting with one of their fans because Mister Miracle is an escape artist when he isn’t fighting wars on Apokolips.

Tom King and Mitch Gerads can do no wrong together.  I first found this out when I read Sheriff of Babylon, and that continues to be the case with these two storytellers.  The one thing that catches my eye with these two is the 9 panel layout they use. It was a great way to tell their story in Sheriff of Babylon and it works really well in Mister Miracle.  If you’re not a big Fourth World fan (because I’m not) don’t let that stop you from picking up this book.  These two are making something great and you don’t want to miss it.  Oh, check out Sheriff of Babylon too especially if you’re digging Mister Miracle.
