Harley Quinn starts her own small business: Harley for Hire, where you can hire Harley (at what I assume must be a very reasonable price) and have her solve your supervillain problems for you. The opening pages showcasing her commercial are a ton of fun, and there are plenty of great gags to be found. To be honest, it took be a second reading to figure out the whole “cat in the tree” joke with Catwoman.
We only see this business venture one more time. After that, it’s just Harley alone. It’s clear that whatever Quinn is doing, it’s not something she loves.
Penguin takes out a bunch of mob bosses thanks to his team of super buff penguins: Maurice and Pierre. Watching two giant penguins tear a person in half with organs flying everywhere is one of the strangest things I’ve ever seen… and I loved it.
At the end, we see Penguin recruiting Killer Croc, Riddler, Mr. Freeze, and others to go with him to New York. Apparently, they’ve had enough of Gotham and want to get away from Batman in good ol’ New York. There the only thing they have to worry about is Quinn, so she will probably be getting a lot more business soon.
This issue does a great job of setting up what will surely be some explosive issues to come. It’s funny, grotesque, and has just the right amount of heart.
I would highly recommend the current run of Harley comics to anyone who’s not onboard yet. Every issue is a delightful romp. If you’re like me, you’ll have your roommates knocking on your door to figure out why you’re chuckling in no time.
