Batgirl and the Birds of Prey #16 Review

Batgirl and the Birds of Prey #16

Writers: Julie Benson and Shawna Benson
Artist: Roge Antonio

The men of Gotham are extremely sick with an unknown virus and it’s up to Batgirl and a group of the finest female superheroes to figure out a cure for the virus and who is behind the attack on the men of Gotham.

The second part of the Manslaughter story arc is really interesting and unique. What happens when you try to take out the men in one of the biggest cities in the DCU. That’s the question Julia and Shawna Benson present to us in this compelling story. I felt there was a lot of humor and great dialogue between the characters not only the heroines that swoop in to save the day but with their men as well. It reads like what a good mystery should, full of twists and turns and surprises that is full of suspense and leaves the reader wanting to know more. It’s the kind of story that truly leaves a reader wanting to know what’s next.

The art is a style I’ve yet to see and it’s great. Roge Antonio gives an almost anime look to the characters that sets it apart from other stories. The pops of color from the characters costumes set against the dark tones of the city provides an great contrast to the overall look of the book.
