Astonishing X-Men #1 Review

Spoilers Ahead!!!
Becoming an X-Men is the dream of all those that attend the Jean Grey School for Higher Learning, and being a psychic is a must in all X-Men teams. Check out X-Men Blue and Gold both teams have a resident psychic ready to fight. Well this action-packed Issue of Astonishing X-Men # 1, doesn’t disappoint with an all-star cast of Psylocke, Bishop, Gambit, Fantomex, Old man Logan, Rogue, and Beast who all receive a psychic message from Psylocke who appears to be the latest victim in a series of psychic attacks that have been plaguing physics.

After being able to free Psylocke of her possessed state, we are able to find out that the Shadow King is behind these attacks and he seems to be siphoning power from psychics like a parasite from the astral plane. The X-Men know that these attacks won’t stop so they decide to take the fight to the Shadow King. And in true Marvel Fashion death is more of a suggestive thought then a permanent state. Once the X-Men make it to the astral plane they are acknowledged by the Shadow King who is instantly aware of their trespassing, but looks like the X-Men have a very familiar ally waiting in the depths of the astral plane. Some would say a mentor of sorts for the X-Men, ok, you guessed it; Professor Charles Xavier appears.

Now most of us know that the Professor is as dead as you can be in this world or the Marvel universe. He was killed by Cyclops when drunk with power from the phoenix force at the conclusion of Avengers vs X-Men storyline and if you think he can come back from that, his brain was removed from his body by the Red Skull to fuse to his brain to consume Charles power. Could this be Charles Xavier soul in the astral plane or is he really back from the dead? Regardless it’s always great to see an old friend and maybe we see a round 2 between Xavier and the all familiar Phoenix.
