Superman #6 Review

So I am a bit late on this review, but I am playing catch up on my comic collection and after reading this I just had to write a review for it. Now I have never been that big of a Superman fan, I always leaned more towards Batman. The New 52 Superman never really garnered my interest either, just wasn’t for me really. With Rebirth however I made an active effort to read Superman and Action Comics, in the end really enjoying Superman and dropping Action Comics.

In Superman #6 we are reaching the pinnacle of the Eradicator fight as Superman has taken it to the moon to avoid any collateral damage. After seeing Lois in the Batsuit last time around I was excited to see what they would do next and boy was I not disappointed.  In what seems to be a theme in Rebirth, this issue was packed with action and emotion. With great fight scenes and moments that remind us who Superman truly is, along with the fact that he is for everyone.

Tomasi and Gleason consistently nail the characters here, giving Superman a return to form and fleshing out Lois and John in the process. Plus we get the return of Krypto and who wouldn’t be excited for that? Gleason seems have an affinity for animals (see Robin Son of Batman for some great animal fun) and I am enthralled to see what he will do with Krypto in the future. Add in the final page reveal where Superman reveals his son as Superboy to the Justice League and you have me hooked to this series for the foreseeable future.

Moving right along to the art and oh boy am I a fan of Gleason’s pencils, his art style just hits all of the right notes for me. From his panels that just flow along to his full page art, it is all stunning here. Not to be forgotten Gray and Kalisz kill it on ink and color, this book just pops of the page as you read it, a pleasure to see all around.

So in closing I would like to thank the whole team on this book, they have gotten me back into Superman, something I never thought I would say. So if you’re on the fence about this, go pick up an issue and check it out, it will pull you in and have you smiling from ear to ear.

9 / 10
